It was announced this morning (Friday 9th May) that local airline, Euromanx, had ceased trading with immediate effect.

A press release blamed difficult trading conditions brought about by the rise in fuel costs and falling passenger numbers.

This release contrasted substantially from an announcement made by EuroManx, as recently as February 2008, of “a record start to a New Year with bookings far ahead of projections”.

Despite previous denials, by both the airline and government officials, that the company was in any financial difficulty, Transport Minister informed Manx Radio, when interviewed this morning, that he had known, for some time, there were problems at Euromanx.

The Manx Herald had, in the last few weeks, been contacted by someone concerned with the status of EuroManx; and we were in the process of verifying the information they had provided when the latest news broke.

The Manx Herald will still complete this investigation and publish its findings in due course.
