Mec Vannin - not a lot to say?

Font size: Decrease font Enlarge font

Mec Vannin had its latest news sheet on its stall at St Johns. Surprisingly, when you consider the number of controversial issues in the news at the moment, there is very little of the expected fire and brimstone from the Island's leading nationalist movement.

Topics covered are a bit old hat - pensions, LegCo, a foreign saint, and fluoridisation (sic) - and the "nasty little right wing, stupid reactionary enclaves like today's tax dodging Isle of Man" diatribe seems a bit passé.

When Welsh and Cornish nationalists are threatening to get the matches out again, and even Cumbrian 'nationalists' are pledging to join in the giving 'incomers' and 'holiday-home-owners' a warm welcome, The Manx Herald has to ask of Mec Vannin "Have they gone soft?"

Even though Mannin faces many problems and is home to the evil financial sector which encourages tax dodgers and other undesirables, most of us will not vote for a nationalistic party. The IOM has long been home to Manx, English, Irish, Scottish and now people from further afield and this is what\'s made it survive.

We will rise to our former glory once again, don't you worry. Young blood will burn us all an ideal future, and tolerable present.
