CPA delegates security compromised by Island media?

Thee Manx politicians and a secretary are currently enjoying the hospitality of the Indian sub-continent, while attending the 53rd Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference in New Delhi.

The theme for the conference is ‘delivering democracy and sustainable development’.

Running concurrently with the main conference is a conference for small countries, with the Isle of Man being one of 30 the jurisdictions represented, and one for Women parliamentarians.

The Manx Herald is of the opinion that these conferences, the subject matter, the reasons for the attendance by Tynwald members, and how they hoped to benefit the Island by their attendance would be of interest to our readers.

Therefore, the editor contacted the three delegates, in advance of the conference, to ask this question with the intention to publish the response.

However, the editor was informed that for security reasons it wasn’t considered appropriate to publicise the visit in advance. The Manx Herald, although somewhat surprised by this response, decided to take heed of it.

So you can perhaps understand the Manx Herald’s ‘concern’ that subsequent to this ‘warning’ Three FM repeatedly played an interview with Geoff ‘the Great Communicator’ Corkish, prior to his departure to India, letting the whole world know how much he was looking forward to the small nations’ conference; and Manx Radio have since contacted Anne Craine in India and played part of the recorded interview.

So has our gallant trio had their security compromised and, judging by the interview with Mrs Craine, have they really learned anything they couldn’t have acquired over the internet?

 Make your own mind up.
