Boogie-woogie king Jools Holland OBE returns to the Isle of Man with his world-famous Rhythm & Blues Orchestra for a special concert at the Villa Marina on 17th June, sponsored by Standard Bank.
Jools Holland’s 18-piece Orchestra features legendary drummer Gilson Lavis, and the concert will also feature special guest star Marc Almond. Special guest vocalists will be Ruby Turner and Loise Marshall.
The concert follows Jools Holland’s historic performance to 3,000 people at Peel Castle in 2000 – an event believed to have set a record for attracting the most people inside the Castle’s walls at any point in its history!
In a performing and recording career spanning almost 30 years, the uniquely talented boogie-woogie pianist and TV presenter has worked with artists such as Eric Clapton, Sting, Luther Vandross, B.B. King, Dr John, Paul Weller, Tom Jones and George Harrison.
Together with his Rhythm and Blues Orchestra, Jools Holland today plays an average of 100 live shows each year, touring the UK, Europe and Australia to audiences in excess of 500,000.
His TV broadcasting career – in which he performs with, and interviews, celebrity music guests – spans such successful shows as ‘The Tube’, ‘Jukebox Jury’ and BBC2’s flagship music programme ‘Later…with Jools Holland’. The show recently celebrated its 200th edition, and is shortly to be broadcast live on BBC2.
John Coyle, Managing Director of Standard Bank Isle of Man said:
“Standard Bank is delighted to be sponsoring Jools Holland’s return visit to the Isle of Man. To be associated with such a talented and much-loved artist is a privilege, and I am certain that this performance will be a fantastic event. This is sure to be a major sell-out event.”
On behalf of the Isle of Music Festival, Emma Christian said:
“Jools Holland is a musician’s musician. He and the Rhythm and Blues Orchestra gave the Island a magical evening on his last sell-out visit, so I really would encourage everyone to book up early to avoid disappointment.
“We are most grateful to Standard Bank for their valued support for this event.”
Tickets (from £35) are available from the Villa Marina Box Office on 694555 from 10am on Thursday, 20th March, or via its website on www.gov.im/villagaiety.
