Braddan Parish Commissioners appoint new Clerk

BPC has announced that their new Clerk will be Colin Whiteway, a career civil servant currently working for the DHSS. He has recently completed a MBA at the International Business School in Douglas.

Mr Whiteway, who is married and has two children, will take up his new position with the Authority on 17^th September 2007; taking over from Finance Officer, Moira Radcliffe, who has been acting Clerk for the past few months.

The Commissioners say that they are very much looking forward to working with Mr Whiteway, who they say has extensive experience of the public sector, and they believe he will be an asset to the Authority and ratepayers.

In a press release issued by the Commissioners, Mr Whiteway says: “My main focus is to support the Commissioners in using their resources and capabilities effectively to deliver a high quality service to its ratepayers. To do this I want to use the experience, skills and training I have gained whilst working in the public service and when recently completing my MBA."

He continued: "I fully appreciate that the Commissioners and their staff have been through a very torrid time recently and I hope that I will be able to assist them in creating a balance, consistent, stable, and at times an innovative service that they can provide to the people of Braddan.”

The Commissioners dismissed their previous Clerk in March 2007, but the reason has not been officially revealed. The Manx Herald understands that a claim for unfair dismissal has been lodged with the Industrial Relations Tribunal.

The Commissioners, and their former Clerk, are also the subject of a current Tynwald Select Committee investigation into the events surrounding the withdrawal of the draft Braddan Parish Plan.
