Renowned television producer, Gavin MacFayden is to address a public meeting on Tuesday, 2nd October at the Claremont Hotel, Douglas, starting at 7.30 p.m. Mr MacFadyen is the Director of the Centre for Investigative Journalism and has produced or directed several well respected current affairs programmes, including World in Action and Panorama. The programmes have covered a wide range of subjects, from the activities of UK Neo-Nazis to the torturing of political prisoners in Turkey and Bolivia. Mr MacFadyen’s impressive CV also includes involvement with organisations in the USA and South Africa. A spokesperson for P A G said, "We are delighted to have such an experienced and distinguished speaker visit here. P A G believes that the public is poorly served by Island and regional media in this aspect of reporting." P A G are concerned that the recent government announcement of the newly formed Communication Unit will mean a coordinated approach to official spin which, in their view, will need to be questioned and probed by vigorous and vigilant media investigation. P A G describe the purpose of this public meeting is to raise this issue openly and create an awareness of the dangers of a near passive media in the Isle of Man. They urge as many people as possible to attend. The event is free and everyone is welcome.
