Tower of Refuge final restoration gets underway
The Department of Transport has commenced work on the final phases of restoring the Tower of Refuge.
The Manx Herald reported back in May 2007 that the DOT had taken responsibility for stabilizing and restoration work, after it was established that the tower was owned by the Government and not the RNLI.
Taking advantage of low spring tides, the plan for March and April, the Department plan to build the landing stage, for which preliminary works was carried out last year.
Once that work is completed, the main work on re-pointing and general structural repairs will be carried out during the summer.
The DOT hopes to have all the work completed by the autumn this year.
