Middle constituents in state of shock

Font size: Decrease font Enlarge font

You could tell by the look on the faces of Middle residents that something extraordinary had happened.

So what was it that was so unusual it merited headline news on Manx Radio?

Had the DOT announced they were to install traffic lights at the junction of Peel and Strang Road, or agreed to a speed limit and double white lines on the Ballahutchin? No, it wasn’t that.

Was the incinerator at Richmond Hill actually working for more than a couple of days in a row and producing some electricity? No it wasn’t that either.

Did the Water Authority finish digging up the roads to lay new water pipes? No it didn’t.

Or had the Department of Local Government and the Environment called off the elections in Braddan? No, voters are going to be allowed to express their opinion of the candidates at the ballot box.

In fact, all it turned out to be was that the area’s MHK, Martyn Quayle, had announced he is to hold a ‘political surgery’ in the Constituency.

The Manx Herald hopes that in future the ‘National’ broadcaster will issue a ‘health’ warning, before it releases such potentially calamitous news - as your correspondent is aware of numerous reports of a variety of reactions by residents; from feinting to nearly ‘splitting-their-sides’.
