Jail for death crash driver
Lindsey Ann Bates, 22, was today sentenced to 33 months jail, at Douglas Courthouse, by Acting Deemster Montgomery.
Bates, at the end of her trial in May 2007, was found guilty of causing the deaths by dangerous driving of 54 year old John Fieldhouse, and his son, Rowland, aged 24, in a road traffic accident, on the Veranda, in November 2005.
Mr Montgomery said that an aggravating factor was the speed at which she was driving, and that she was clearly driving beyond her ability, and that by not taking a tough stance it would send out the wrong message to other drivers.
Therefore he would not suspend the sentence and in addition the defendant would be banned from driving for three and half years.
