Poll: EuroManx

Manx Radio’s former senior political correspondent has scraped home, at the forth time of trying, to fill the final seat on the Legislative Council.
The bare minimum thirteen votes he received at this week’s sitting of the House of Keys is hardly a ringing endorsement; but Mr Callister probably will not be too concerned, as a win is a win, however close the result.
Retiring MLC, Pamela Crowe was magnanimous in defeat and told Manx Radio that, having never intended to get into politics (and some probably wished she never had), she had thoroughly enjoyed her 11 years.
The Manx Herald believes Mrs Crowe, who received 8 votes (two votes were spoiled and one member was absent), received strong support from the Council of Ministers. Apparently one Minister is believed to have expressed the opinion that, at 75, the ‘geriatric’ Callister was too old to be worthy of a vote. The Manx Herald had never appreciated until now what a spring chicken Pammy is!
Mr Callister says he wishes to see a publicly elected upper house, which is an issue dear to the heart of the Manx Herald. However, we have heard this before from other candidates, who have then gone ‘cold’ on the issue once elected. We shall be watching carefully to see if Mr Callister follows up the rhetoric with deeds to match; and whether he really does ‘forensically’ examine legislation passed from the Keys to the Council to consider.
