Poll: EuroManx

In yesterday’s (Thursday 24th April) local authority election the five members of the current Board of Braddan Parish Commissioners comprehensively saw off the challenge of sacked former clerk Charles Lewin.
Mr Lewin who had predicted, to one of the other candidates, that he would capture the third highest vote, ended up bottom of the poll, nearly 200 votes behind the fifth placed, and successful candidate, Mrs Hodge.
Perhaps predictably, Mr Lewin was ungracious in defeat and, before slinking away at the end of night, reverted to type by hurling insults at another successful candidate, Andrew Jessopp; who Mr Lewin had frequently clashed with prior to his dismissal for serious misconduct.
Mr Lewin also continued, when interviewed by Manx Radio’s Dan Davies, post defeat, to try to convince (himself no doubt) that sound financial control, of the authority, had evaporated with his dismissal. Unfortunately, for Mr Lewin, the voters have obviously formed the opposite conclusion; and have chosen to believe the Commissioners.
A delighted Commissioners’ Chairman, Mrs Hodge, speaking to Manx Radio after the results were announced, said that she hoped the Authority could now move forward in a more positive direction; and, as she believed that she had a good team to work with, this was entirely possible.
However, Mrs Hodge added that she had been concerned by Mr Lewin issuing two manifestos; one for the general populace and another specifically for the tenants in the Commissioners’ houses. She claimed that the manifestos contained a number of misstatements and that the Commissioners would be responding in due course.

Posted by bradratepayer, 05 May, 2008 12:33:31Definately two of those manifestos from the Braddan 5 must have been done in the office, using our money from rates, should have been paid for by them not us! Do our rates not pay for the office building, yet on election day we were only allowed to go in the back door!! Wouldn't have been like that in Mr Lewin's day, we could walk in the front door of our own building! I would also like to know why there was an Advocate appointed for the job of returning officer. Could the new Clerk not cope! tut tut. Bring back Buster Lewin. He cared about the people and got the job done!!!

Posted by Concerned, 04 May, 2008 15:55:20Could we all be advised why the Commissioners appointed an advocate to be the returning officer when Mr Lewin used to perform this function and was very efficent? What did this appoinment cost the ratepayers? Were any of the five manifestos of the existing Commissioners prepared or copied in the Commissioners Office?
