Final sitting of Keys for Malachy

The Speaker of the House of Keys, Steve Rodan, paid a glowing tribute, at the close of today’s House of Keys (Tuesday 24th June 2008) to retiring Secretary of the house and Counsel to the Speaker, Malachy Cornwall-Kelly.

 

Mr Cornwall-Kelly, who was appointed in 2001, was thanked by Mr Rodan for all his good work and wished that he, and his wife Heather, have a happy retirement.

 

Mr Cornwall-Kelly is to be succeeded in the position by Mr Roger Phillips, whose appointment was confirmed earlier during the sitting.

 Mr Phillips previous position was Deputy Principle Clerk to the UK House of Commons and Mr Rodan said of his appointment, “In Roger Phillips, Tynwald and its Branches will have an extremely able and experienced Clerk. We feel very confident that the Isle of Man’s ancient Parliament will be well equipped as it continues to take its place among the legislatures of the twenty first century and maintain the Island’s reputation as world-class player.”
