Bell prepared to ‘engage’ with OECD & EU but not the Manx Herald

Font size: Decrease font Enlarge font

When Treasury Minister, Allan Bell addressed the assembled media, with the continuing notable exception of the Manx Herald, at yesterday’s press conference - following the signing of the latest tax exchange agreement with the French - he recited, to the ‘chosen ones’, how the IOM has led the way in “engaging” with the OECD, EU and individual countries.

Mr Bell went on to say, in the interview recorded by Manx Radio, “we recognise the international agenda to improve transparency and cooperation …… to continue our support for that principle”.

However, the transparency, cooperation - and also his desire for a “level playing field”, in areas that suit him - apparently does not extend to all the media outlets operating on the Island. Presumably this is due to a perception that certain media will be ‘hostile’ to IOM Government ‘PR’ ‘spin’ and ‘propaganda’.

The Manx Herald is currently challenging the ‘government’, and the Tynwald management committee, to provide a copy of the criteria, and procedures, that were ‘employed’ when extending ‘media accreditation’ to Manx Radio, IOM Newspapers et al; so we can understand on what basis they received ‘approved status’ but the Manx Herald doesn’t.

We will of course keep you informed of progress and any response we receive.

I am appalled that the administration is adopting
this exclusion policy for the Manx Herald.
What's happened to 'the access to Government and
greater openness' promised in the Government
Strategic plan 2007-11?
Please, Manx Herald, keep burrowing below all the
spin - particularly Minister Bell's

Allan Bell continues to prove what a pathetic little man he is. Thousands of KSF Depositors are screaming in agony and he continues to bable on about how good the stuff he does is. Manx Herald, i think you should consider it an honour to not be invited by that man to press meetings.

If the IoM Government has nothing to hide why is it afraid of the Manx Herald? The Manx Herald knows what the UK Government & the DAG knows, namely that the Island is in fact a tax haven where ultra rich people can open secret accounts to evade paying taxes. The absurdity of the IoM Government in pretending otherwise beggars belief.
A. Bell fraternalising with the EU & OECD is a laugh. Everyone knows that the EU is a corrupt institution, and there are serious doubts about the integrity of the OECD. 'Birds of a feather flock together'. The Manx Herald is not one of them.

I'm a member of the Jersey parliament, and I have been attempting to fight against the kind of opinion management tactics used by the 'Mr. Bell's' of Jersey throughout my career.

The culture of secrecy, nepotism and untrammeled corruption exhibited by most of the apparatus of public administration in Jersey is simply breathtaking.

It looks as though the Manx oligarchy experiences exactly the same naked terror at the prospect of independent media scrutiny as our load of gangsters.

Keep up the good work.

Sleazy and incompetent regulatory control of the Isle of Man financial services industry has generated an endemic form of corruption on the island and the primary victims are innocent people.

The Premier Low Risk Fund plc obtained bank transfers from pensioners by making false claims and then retained these transfers by applying an illegal exit penalty. The Isle of Man government failed in both a duty of care and due diligence to protect these pensioners.

Is one of the reasons why the Isle of Man government has barred the Manx Herald from attending government press conferences because it ran a report on this fraud?

The Isle of Man Fascist state abuses the individual's fundamental rights and violates the freedom of the Press. Those who work tirelessly to bring this to the world’s attention should be applauded.

Sorry to hear of your exclusion from the official press corp of the IoM. I hope you are successful in correcting the rather childish, and possibly more seriously sinister, behaviour of the IoM establishment in your case.
From what I've seen of your reporting on Kaupthing you stand head and shoulders above what we might now consider to be the Government Approved Press.
IoM is a British Dependency, as a mainlander I am staggered to see such behaviour so close to our doorstep.
I hope maybe that that journalists on the mainland might, if aware, feel that you were deserving of their support.

The Isle of Man government is forcibly preventing fair and impartial reporting by the press.

Freedom of the press is one of the corner stones of a democratic system – once the government begins indoctrinating the people by suppressing erudition the island is heading towards totalitarianism.

The Manx Herald acts as a beacon lighting the gloom - if this is extinguished then the government can control all activities, overtly political or otherwise, as in fascist or communist dictatorships.

Examples of totalitarian regimes are Italy under Benito Mussolini 1922–45; Germany under Adolf Hitler 1933–45; the USSR under Joseph Stalin from the 1930s until his death 1953; and more recently Romania under Nicolae Ceausescu 1974–89.

Has the Isle of Man under James Anthony Brown (1956 - ) ambitions to join this list?

Go wretched government - Go!
