TTRA issues call for support for injured riders
The TT Riders Association has issued a press release seeking support from the public for their funding raising and charitable work in aid of injured riders.
The Association - which was formed in 1951, and has over 1000 past and present TT Riders as members - says it is less than a month since the end of a fantastic week of TT racing but unfortunately for some riders, competing in the races, the event will be memorable for the wrong reasons.
All the riders competing in the TT do so with the knowledge that it is a hard and uncompromising event and accidents can and do occur. On many occasions these accidents can result in serious injuries that require significant recovery times, or may even result in life long disabilities.
The TT Riders Association, and its offshoot the Friends of the TTRA, are Manx registered charities that solely raise money to provide support to TT riders, who may have been injured or are in need of support through old age, ill health or for some other reason; and they compliment the work of other organisations connected to the welfare of riders.
In addition to providing help to riders the TTRA quite often assist their families and/or dependents if, tragically, a rider is killed during competition or when they die and help is needed.
The TTRA is able to provide help to all TT riders who may need it; and does so to the tune of many thousands of pounds a year in grants.
It is a fact of life that often the less well known riders, who are injured or need help, can become easily overlooked – but support for them is no less needed or appreciated by the recipients.
The TTRA hopes that when people are planning fund raising events on the Island, or further a field, they will consider making a donation to the TTRA so they can continue with their valuable work.
Alternatively fans of the TT could consider joining “The Friends “and in doing so help raise funds for the TTRA. Lifetime membership of FOTTRA costs a minimum of £150, which is used to help fund the grants made by the TTRA.
