Manx Herald Isle of Man: P A G to debate: Abrogation – is it an Option? P A G to debate: Abrogation – is it an Option? ================================================================================ Chas Richard on 30 January, 2010 05:53:00 The latest Positive Action Group meeting is to debate the issue of Abrogation. The Chief Minister declared “Abrogation is not an issue on the table” and P A G say he has dodged analyzing the pros and cons of a fundamental change in our relationship with the UK. However, they point out the Treasury Minister, later, took a softer stance and stated that abrogation could not be ruled out. P A G say other well respected political pundits, such as Charles Cain, believe that we should seriously consider the issue and so that’s just what the local political lobby group will do in a public meeting on Monday 1st February 2010 , 7.30 p.m. at the Manx Legion Club, Market hill, Douglas Chris Robertshaw for P A G said; “The Island’s relationship with the U K seems to have changed in the last 2 years, starting with the unilateral decision by the U K to end the Reciprocal Health Agreement. This was followed by the collapse of K S F Bank and latterly with the one-sided alteration to the Revenue Sharing Arrangement.” Mr Robertson goes on to say, “We feel it’s time for the public to be made aware of the implications to our economy about possible abrogation of the Customs and Excise Agreement, in the light of what appears to be a worsening relationship with our near neighbours. It is not sensible to bury our head in the sand over this issue. We will present the facts both for and against abrogation and we do hope that people will come along and join in the debate - we really want to hear their views”. As usual the P A G meeting is free and open to everyone.
