Font size: Decrease font Enlarge font

Treasury Minister Alan Bell MHK is set to appear before the Tynwald Select Committee investigating the collapse of Kaupthing Singer & Friedlander (IOM) Ltd in November 2008.

Mr Bell had been due to appear before the Committee in December 2009 but owing to other commitments had to reschedule.

The session is due to start at 3.30pm (25th Jan) in the Millennium Room in the Legislative Buildings in Finch Road, Douglas and the evidence will heard in public.

Let's hope Mr. Bell will be asked to explain why the IOM authorities failed to ensure on sale of The Derbyshire Offshore to Kaupthing Babk hf that the parental guarantee offered by the latter was not properly drafted and legally enforceable ( the Iceland liquidators of Kaupthing Bank hf have just thrown out the application by the KSFIOM liquidators to stand by the guarantee ).

Sorry my previous post was in error as there should not have been a "not" in front of "properly drafted". The corrected version is " Let's hope Mr. Bell will be asked to explain why the IOM authorities failed to ensure on sale of The Derbyshire Offshore to Kaupthing Babk hf that the parental guarantee offered by the latter was properly drafted and legally enforceable ( the Iceland liquidators of Kaupthing Bank hf have just thrown out the application by the KSFIOM liquidators to stand by the guarantee )".

In my humble opinion Mr Bell is a master of dissembling. It is ironic that Mr Bell will appear before the TSC at approximately the same time as Blair appears before Chilcot. Two liars together?
People forget. I notice there is not even 'Jimbo' here. Butterflies have short memories, that is the basis that people like Bell operate on. And that is the weakness of people like 'Jimbo', and that is how people like Bell survive. I'm looking forward to reading your best reporting yet on his no doubt theatrical performance. I can see it is going to be 'spot the contradictions'. But he's a month late and he expects, reasonably that the butterflies remember less.
Just a trivial question: Does this guy ever appear on time? He couldn't make Court deadlines, mind you the Court appeared to lick his feet, just my opinion. Let's see if the TSC has bought new dentures, Chilcot again.
I wait with baited breath to see the level of hypocrisy the head of the IoM treasury is capable of delivering.

The FSC should have been responsible for ensuring that the Kaufthing Parental Guarantee was valid before accepting the transfer of the Derbyshire to KSF IoM. How these incompetent white collar types continually get away with being prosecuted is simply amazing. I guess it gets back to who you know rather than what you know. I it pretty obvious that the IoM Government ministers and the island's judicial system are all protecting each others backs
